Garden of the Gods - Jardin de los Dioses
We finally went to Colorado, a place where we had wanted to go ever since we arrived to the States. We chose a little town called Cascade, close to Colorado Springs, to celebrate our tenth wedding anniversary.
We got there on Friday, February 10, and the first thing, before getting to our B&B was to drive around the Garden of the Gods, a breath-taking rock formation just outside of Colorado Springs.
Finalmente nos fuimos a pasear a Colorado, al cual habiamos querido visitar desde que llegamos a los Yunaited. Para celebrar nuestro decimo aniversario de casados escogimos un pueblo llamado Cascade, que se encuentra a las afueras de Colorado Springs.
Llegamos el viernes 10 de febrero y lo primero que hicimos fue pasear por el Jardin de los Dioses (incluso antes de llegar al cuarto que rentamos en una cabaña). El Jardin de los Dioses son unas rocas gigantes (como las de Tapalpa, Jal.)

Rocky Mountain Lodge & Cabins
Since the streets of Colorado Springs were clear and dry, we rented a Dodge Neon, which was perfect until we drove to Cascade, at the foot of the mountain, and encountered hills. The road was icy and uphill. It took us a few attempts but we finally were able to get to the B&B. The picture below is one of the hills where we almost got stuck.
Cuando llegamos a Colorado Springs rentamos un carro chico ya que las calles estaban en buenas condiciones. Sin embargo cuando llegamos a Cascade nos dimos cuenta de que la cabaña estaba al final de una colina, la cual por poco y no sube nuestro carrito. La foto de aqui abajo es una de esas colinas
We stayed at Rocky Mountain Lodge and Cabins. Since the roads were so bad we ended up going for dinner to a walking distance place. We went to The Wines of Colorado restaurant a few blocks from the B&B. We did some wine tasting and had the special of the day: a humbling 12oz ribeye.
Back at the B&B, we had succulent three-course breakfasts and the whole cabin to ourselves most days.
Nos quedamos en unas cabañas y como las calles estaban cubiertas de nieve tuvimos que ir a cenar caminando a un restaurante que nos quedaba a unas cuadras. Fuimos a un restarante que vendia vinos de Colorado y nos dieron chance de probar algunos. Cenamos el especial del dia: un ribeye enorme.
Cave of the Winds - La Cueva de los Vientos
On Saturday we went to the Cave of Winds and took one of their tours. The caves are awesome. We walked through narrow and curvy paths. We got to see stalactites (the ones that go down) and stalagmites (the ones that go up) througout the cave. At one point our guide turned off the lights and it got really really darks inside. We couldn't even see our hand in front of our face. It is not like when you turn the lights off in your room and then get used to the darkness. In this case it was completely dark.
El sabado tomamos un tour en La Cueva de los Vientos y resulto ser fenomenal. Caminamos a traves de pasillos angostos y sinuosos por los que nos toco ver estalactitas (las que bajan) y estalagmitas (las que suben). Cuando nuestra guia apago la luz nos toco darnos cuenta de lo oscuro que se esta adentro, una oscuridad a la que tus ojos no se acostumbran ni despues de pasar un buen rato, en otras palabras estaba "oculo oculo".
Manitu Springs
Manitou Springs is a little town between Colorado Springs and Cascade. This is where we thought we were going to until we saw the exact address of our B&B. We spent an afternon in there, walking and shopping around.
Manitou Springs es otro pueblito cercano donde pasamos una tarde de turistas.
Royal Gorge Railroad - Viaje en Tren por el Desfiladero Real
On Sunday we drove for an hour and a half to Cañon City to ride the Royal Gorge Railroad. Since the weather was so nice, we were able to go to an open car and enjoy the ride "outdoors." We crossed moutains and saw the suspension bridge high above us. The pictures don't do justice to the experience.
El domingo manejamos a la ciudad Cañon, donde tomamos un tren que nos llevo a traves de las montañas por un desfiladero, y desde donde se pudo ver un puente colgante famoso. Como el clima estaba bonito, nos dejaron pasar a un vagon abierto, desde donde tomamos la mayoria de las fotos.
The Black Bear - El Oso Negro
That night we dressed up and went to a highly recommended restaurant called The Black Bear. We got lost trying to find it and finally saw a small "hole in the wall" place that turned out great once we got in. We had a three-hour seven-course meal with pairing wines, seating by the fireplace. It was quite an anniversary dinner!
Esa noche nos pusimos guapos y nos fuimos a cenar chido. Despues de darnos una perdida, llegamos a un restaurante que por fuera parecia de mala muerte pero que resulto de primera. Durante tres horas cenamos siete platillos con vinos, sentados junto a la chimenea. ¡Fue una cena digna de aniversario!
Pikes Peak - Pico de Pikes
And we saved the best for last. On Sunday night we changed our Neon for a Jeep Laredo 4x4 so that we could go to Pikes Peak. On Monday morning we rode Pikes Peak Highway. Since the weather had been so nice the last few days the road was open all the way to the top. And we rode it! The mountain is full of all kinds of evergreens and the view around, above and below us was amazing. The road is 19 miles long and about 2/3 of it are paved (that's why they call it a highway.) It took us about 2 hours to reach the summit at 14,110 ft.
Y para cerrar con broche de oro subimos una montaña. El domingo por la noche cambiamos el Neon por una Jeep Laredo 4x4 para que pudieramos ir al Pico de Peaks. El camino hacia la punta es una carretera de 19 millas con dos carriles, la cual esta pavimentada unas dos terceras partes. Como el clima habia estado tan bonito en los ultimos dias la carretara estaba abierta hasta la cima de la montaña. Nos llevo cerca de 2 horas llegar a la cima que esta a 4,300 m. (el Nevado de Colima esta a 4,320 m.)

The stuff in white a the bottom of these pictures is a frozen lake called Crystal Clear Reservoir at mile 6.
Lo que se ve blanco al pie de la foto es un lago congelado en la milla 6.

This is at Glen Cove gift shop at mile 13 and 11,425 ft, very close to the timberline.
Esto es en la milla 13 (3,500 m) donde se encuentra la tienda de regalos; muy cerca de donde dejan de crecer los pinos.
These pictures are close to the summit and above the timberline which explains the lack of trees.
Estas fotos son ya muy cerca de la cima y se nota la falta de pinos.
And here we are at the summit! 14,110 feet, mind you.
Y henos en la cima del pico a 14,110 pies o 4,300 metros.
We took this picture on our way down. Believe it or not, there are some big horn sheep on this picture.
Esta foto la tomamos ya de regreso y aunque no lo crean ahi estan unos carneros.
