We arrived to Rome's airport, took a train to the city and from there bus 64 to the hotel. A "manifestazione" (demonstration) changed the bus route and we had no clue as to where to get off. A mixture of Italian, Spanish, English and sign language did the trick and we managed to arrive to the hotel, which was located near Piazza (square) Venezia, pictured below.
That night even though it was raining and cold we walked around the city and visited Piazza Navona, the Pantheon, and Trevi Fountain. This actually kind of funny. We started just wandering around from Piazza Navona and we always thought we knew more or less where we were. All of a sudden we heard water, turned around the corner and we found the Trevi Fountain. At that time we pulled out our map to find out that we were walking in the oposite direction than we thought!
Llegamos al aeropuerto, tomamos un tren a la ciudad, de ahí el camión número 64 al hotel pero una manifestación cambió la ruta del camión, así que no sabíamos dónde bajarnos. Usando italiano, español, inglés, con gestos y señas nos dimos a entender y finalmente llegamos al hotel, el cual estaba cerca de la Piazza Venezia, donde tomamos las siguientes fotos.
Esa noche, a pesar de la lluvia y el frío, caminamos por la ciudad y fuimos a la Piazza Navona, el Panteón, y la Fuente de Trevi. Cuando llegamos a Piazza Navona decidimos caminar por el barrio sin ningun plan definido, nada mas caminar por la ciudad. Despues de un buen rato de andar por ahi nos dimos cuenta que ya habiamos llegado a la Fuente de Trevi...sacamos nuestro mapa y nos dimos cuenta que estabamos completamente del otro lado que creiamos estar. Pero fue divertido.

Saturday morning we went to Campo de Fiori for brunch and we found a market there. Then went to the Roman Forum and the Coliseum.
La mañana del sábado desayunamos en el Campo de Fiori, donde había un mercado. De ahí nos fuimos al Foro Romano y al Coliseo.

We spent the day at the largest Flea Market in Europe: Porto Portese in Trastevere, where we didn't dare take any pictures. That evening we walked around the city, back to the Trevi Fountain and the Pantheon.
Pasamos el día en el mercado de pulgas más grande de Europa: Porto Portese en Trastévere, donde no tomamos ninguna foto, porque era como el Tepito del DF. Esa noche caminamos por la ciudad, y regresamos a la Fuente de Trevi y al Panteón.

Five-hour train to Venice, then vaporetto (boat) to Saint Mark's square... Venice is magical! Photos of Saint Mark's square, Ducale Palace, Saint Mark's Cathedral, gondolas, a shop and our dinner.
Cinco horas en tren a Venecia, y una vez ahí, vaporetto (lancha) a la plaza de San Marcos... ¡Venecia es mágica! Fotos de la Plaza de San Marcos, la basílica, el Palacio Ducal, góndolas, una tienda y nuestra cena.

Day of Our Lady of the Salute (Health), with a special service there, we saw members of the Church, Police, Gondoliers and many Italians arrive to thank Our Lady for removing Venice from the plague many years ago.
Día de Nuestra Señora de la Salud, así que hubo misa especial; vimos sacerdotes, policía, gondoleros y muchos italianos llegar a darle gracias a la Virgen por acabar con una plaga que le cayó a Venecia hace muchos años.

Festival, walking around the city. Street names on corners "guide you around the city" but you still get lost, which is half the fun.

Woke up to find high water (Acqua Alta) at St. Mark's square, near the hotel; walkways were placed to cross the plaza/Despertamos y vimos que la plaza de San Marcos estaba inundada y había tarimas para que la gente cruce la plaza.
Walking from San Marcos to Rialto, to the train station, saw the Ca' De Oro (House of Gold) and view of houses at the Grand Canal./ De la Plaza de San Marcos caminamos a Rialto, y de ahí a la estación de trenes, y de paso vimos la Casa de Oro y fachadas desde el Gran Canal

Went toTrastevere (neighborhood) during the day and to Piazza del Popolo in the afternoon, and stopped at the Spanish Steps./ Durante el día fuimos al barrio de Trastévere, en la tarde a la plaza del Pópolo y de ahí a la Escalinata Española.

Back to the US, flight cancelled, rerouted and finally arrived home exactly 24 hours after leaving Rome./ De regreso a los EU, vuelo cancelado y finalmente en casa exactamente 24 horas después de haber dejado Roma.
